The Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail

Annette Wise

Annette Wise, co-founder of the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail, will share the history of the trail which begins in Plains, Georgia at President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter's garden. The presentation will include information about the decline in the Monarch population as well as what individuals can do to help all pollinators by establishing a container garden or in-ground garden at their home, school or in a public location.

We will talk about establishing a butterfly garden, citizen science programs, tagging Monarch butterflies, their health issues, and continuing habitat loss for pollinators. A video and slide presentation will take you on a journey to The Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail in Plains, Georgia through pictures of butterfly gardens at the Carters and around Plains.

Through the inspiration of co-founder First Lady Rosalynn Carter, you will learn how one garden has grown to include over 800 gardens scattered across the United States, Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom.
