Make, Dip & Dye for Families Workshop

  • Magnolia Plantation and Gardens 3550 Ashley River Road Charleston, SC, 29414 United States (map)

Create your own textile masterpiece

Spend a fun-filled morning at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens with a hands-on workshop the whole family will love. Using real, natural indigo dye made from a humble green plant, kids and parents will watch plain fabric dip into the vat and transform into a beautiful, vibrant blue right before your eyes—just like magic!

As part of our America 250 celebration, this family workshop makes history and science come alive. We will explore the cool science of color-changing chemistry and become history detectives together. We’ll look closely at the story of indigo—one of South Carolina’s most important early crops—and honor the incredible knowledge, skill, and hard work of the enslaved Africans who mastered its cultivation in the Lowcountry.
