Nature Printing at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
Join us for a creative exploration of nature and printmaking with the Summerville Artist Guild! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to transform leaves, flowers, and natural objects into beautiful, colorful prints full of texture and detail.
Guided by printmaker, painter, and educator Marian Papon, participants will experiment with printing a variety of leaves, flowers, and plants on paper, card stock, and fabric. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with an assortment of your own prints plus a hand-printed canvas tote to take home.
All supplies are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring along their own natural materials. Collect leaves, flowers, or other flat plant items the morning of or the day before the workshop, and press them between sheets of waxed paper to keep them fresh.
We’ll be working with printing inks, so be ready to get a little messy and have fun! Feel free to bring an old T-shirt or apron if you’d like to protect your clothes.
We can’t wait to create with you and celebrate the beauty of nature through printmaking!

About the Intructor
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Marian Papon’s love of art began with a childhood mishap: a trip at the local pool led to a bandaged chin, and a box of crayons as a consolation. The colors, texture, and scent of those crayons sparked a lifelong fascination with art materials.
She pursued her passion academically, studying painting on scholarship at the Brooklyn Museum Art School while earning degrees in Studio Art and Art Education from Brooklyn College and Buffalo State University. There, she explored painting, printmaking, children’s book illustration, and wood design.
Marian spent over 30 years teaching art across all levels, moving with her family through New Jersey, Alabama, Texas, and Paris, France. Each location offered new artistic experiences: painting with a Paris community group, exhibiting with a New Jersey collective, and studying lithography in Houston.
Now an active member of the Summerville Artist Guild, Marian divides her time between painting, drawing, and printmaking, and travels annually to France for plein air painting in the countryside.
