Stories from the Archives
Step inside the archives for a rare evening of discovery with Magnolia’s Director of Ecology, Director of Horticulture, and Director of Preservation & Interpretation. Together, guests will explore the stories held within some of Magnolia’s most remarkable historic books, maps, and botanical works.
During this intimate program, the directors will carefully open and discuss selected archival treasures, offering guests the opportunity to see these objects up close and learn about their history, craftsmanship, and connection to Magnolia’s broader story. Featured items include hand-bound Pulpit Bibles printed in London in 1800, illustrated in large text; botanical works such as L’Héritier’s plant plates and Mark Catesby’s books; historic Robert Mills maps of South Carolina counties; and the Henry Mouzon Map.
Blending history, horticulture, ecology, and preservation, Stories from the Archives invites guests to experience the past through the pages, illustrations, and maps that continue to shape how we understand the Lowcountry landscape.
