Mary Crawford Morris

Mary Crawford Morris grew up in Georgia, where her father was a veterinarian. Animals and nature sparked her interest in drawing, painting, and creating art. After moving to Washington D.C., she studied Fine Art, Art History, and Graphic Design. Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the Corcoran School of Art in 1992. She then worked as a freelance designer from 1993 to 1997.

While raising her children, she started her stationery business, Magpie Designs, in 2005. Using her original watercolor paintings, she designed invitations, announcements, cards, and stationery. Throughout her time in Washington, she was commissioned for oil paintings, invitations, event logos, and Christmas cards for the Bush family. Mary studied Oil Painting at The Yellow Barn, The Kentlands, The Arts Barn, and The Compass Atelier in the DC area. In 2020, she completed the three-year Master Artist Program at the Compass Atelier in Maryland under the teaching of artist and Instructor Glen Kessler. Mary has exhibited nationally in numerous juried shows throughout the country.

After her children were off to college, she realized her dream and moved to Charleston. The magnificent beauty, wildlife, history, and architecture of the Lowcountry have given Mary endless inspiration to paint.
