Nature Journaling with the Summerville Artist Guild
The Summerville Artist Guild invites you to join a serene and inspiring morning of nature journaling at the Magnolia Workshop on Thursday, August 28th from 9 AM-11 AM. This immersive two-hour workshop offers a perfect opportunity to connect with nature, enhance your artistic skills, and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world around you.
Begin your experience with a brief introduction to the art of nature journaling, followed by an exploration of Magnolia’s beautiful gardens. During this time, you will observe, sketch, and photograph the natural surroundings, capturing the essence of the environment through your own lens. Afterward, return to the Magnolia Workshop to transform your field notes and sketches into a personalized nature journal, guided by expert instruction.
Led by Dr. Leigh Mincks
This workshop is led by Dr. Leigh Mincks, a passionate educator with over 34 years of experience in art education across various levels, including pre-school, elementary, middle school, and university. Dr. Mincks has been recognized for her dedication to fostering artistic literacy and creative exploration, earning awards such as the Kirkwood School District Teacher of the Year and the Missouri Middle School Art Teacher of the Year. Her extensive background includes developing curricula that emphasize reflective journaling, skill development across multiple media, and encouraging students to view themselves as “literate artists.” Dr. Mincks holds a B.S.E. in Art Education, an M.A. in Education, and an Ed.D in Teacher Leadership from Maryville University.
