Nesting at Magnolia
Birds craft their nests by weaving, layering, and shaping materials found in their surroundings. Some nests are simple; others are intricate. Each nest is distinctive to its bird species and its natural setting. Building nests creates spaces for birth, care, and safety. Be like a bird and envision your own safe haven. These decorative interpretations are anchored by an Osprey-inspired structure common to our Lowcountry landscapes, providing birds with a sturdy place to begin their nests. From there, creativity has no bounds. These unique vessels offer a window into the artistry of our Color Display team here at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens.
Here are a few highlights!
All That Glitters
Artist: Jim Martin, Director of Horticulture and Landscapes
The Bower Bird weaves intricate nests. These avian art pieces are fashioned in the hopes of attracting that special mate. Nothing is sacred and anything shiny will always be included! Jim Martin’s fascination with nests begins on a rural farm in Northern Ohio. “When I wasn’t milking cows and mucking out stalls, the woods were my refuge. Every nest was an original work of art.”
Cosmic Wetlands
Artist: Hunter Crook, Color Display Manager
