Founded in 1922 and federated in 1932, The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. is one of America’s oldest and largest garden clubs. For over a century, the organization has been dedicated to civic beautification and community service throughout South Carolina’s "Holy City."

The Club funds its extensive philanthropic efforts through popular tours of historic private houses and gardens. Its storied history of projects includes landscaping the Charleston Library Society, executing the iconic Gateway Walk design, and establishing a Fragrance Garden for the Blind. The Club also maintains eight historic gardens and supports the community through therapeutic gardening programs at the MUSC Institute of Psychiatry.

Today, The Garden Club of Charleston remains a vital steward of the city’s natural beauty and horticultural heritage

Carrie Wilcox

From picking dandelions for her grandmother’s table as a child to becoming an award-winning floral designer, Carrie Wilcox has spent more than 20 years creating elevated, garden-inspired floral experiences for weddings, celebrations, and luxury events nationwide. As owner and lead designer of Carrie Wilcox Floral Design since 2007, she is known for her natural, organic aesthetic and deeply personal approach to floral storytelling.

Carrie earned her European Master Certification in floral design while studying in Bruges and has since received numerous honors, including Blue Ribbons at the Atlanta, Newport, and Philadelphia Flower Shows, as well as awards from the Garden Club of America. She has also served as lead designer for the First Lady’s Luncheon and contributed as a floral designer for the Rose Bowl Parade.

An active member of both the Sasqua Garden Club and the Garden Club of Charleston, Carrie enjoys teaching workshops and supporting community floral initiatives. With a background in marketing and public relations, she brings creativity, elegance, and thoughtful guest experience to every event she designs.

Carrie divides her time between Connecticut and Charleston, South Carolina, drawing inspiration from both places’ natural beauty, gardens, and hospitality. She and her husband, John, have three children and a beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bowen.
