In Plein Air Workshop at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
You’re warmly invited to an unforgettable one-day Plein Air Artist Workshop nestled in the stunning Magnolia Plantation and Gardens!
Taught by award-winning Artist Mary Hoffman, you’ll enjoy 5 hours of creative immersion surrounded by century-old live oaks, tranquil waterfront views, and the soul-stirring beauty of Historic Magnolia Plantation - designed to nourish your artistic spirit and reconnect you with your creative flow.
Pack up your painting gear and join this one-day event that kicks off the best season to plein air paint in the Lowcountry!
While this workshop caters to intermediate - advanced painters, all levels are welcome to attend. The Class will consist of learning the fundamentals of composing your painting, emphasizing value and form, along with interpreting local color into your painting. Magnolia Plantation provides endless inspiration from which to paint. This will be an enjoyable time to sharpen your plein air painting skills as we gather to practice the art of painting outside.
The value of this workshop is normally $250.00 per day; Magnolia Plantation is offering this for only $125.00!
A demonstration will kick off the morning session, followed by students finding their location and painting with one-on-one attention and instruction. We will break for lunch. Bring a sack lunch or enjoy the delicious sandwiches and salads available at the Peacock Café located on-site. After lunch, we will begin another painting until we end our session at 4:00 PM. A group critic will cap off our day.

“For me, inspiration cumulates in bold shapes of light and shadow and their effect on color, creating a story the viewer visually completes.
Brushwork is important to me, and I love the lush, loose brushwork that somehow illustrates the fine elements of a subject without painting every detail.”
About Mary Hoffman
Mary has always loved the creative process through drawing and painting since she was a small child. At the age of 6 her father enrolled her in her first oil painting class.
As her artistic skills developed over the years, Mary became best known for her portraiture art.
Portrait commissions helped finance her college studies at The Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned her BFA in 1989.
Today, Mary enjoys combining her love of portrait and figure painting with Plein Air landscapes. She travels painting Plein Air Paint-outs all over the United States.
Her work is documented on her website, www.MaryHoffmanFineArt.com
