Journey to Indigo: Honoring Land, Spirit, and Legacy
Join us at the Heritage Garden at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens as we step into a sacred space for the Journey to Indigo: Inaugural Processing. Guided by Sangodayo Ajala, our gathering begins with a Land Blessing and Libation—a meaningful invitation to slow down, honor those who came before us, and align ourselves with the soil beneath our feet.

Ceremony: Land Blessing & Libation led by Sangodayo Ajala, Babawalo IFA and Sango Priest.
The ceremony opens by bringing everyone into a shared space of respect and reflection. Together, we offer a formal acknowledgement recognizing that we gather on the ancestral homelands of Indigenous peoples and within the living cultural landscape of the Gullah Geechee people. Despite centuries of systemic displacement and injustice, their dedicated stewardship, creativity, and enduring connection to the land continue to shape and sustain Charleston today.
During the ceremony, we will:
Honor the Ancestors: Speak aloud the names of elders, teachers, and loved ones, while holding quiet reflection for those whose names have been lost to history.
Give Thanks to the Land: Extend deep gratitude to the local rivers, marshes, forests, and fields that have nourished both people and culture across generations.
Commit to Cultural & Environmental Stewardship: Shift our perspective to treat the earth as a living relative deserving of care and reciprocity.
We conclude with a shared commitment to protect Lowcountry ecosystems, preserve Gullah Geechee agricultural knowledge and cultural traditions, and ensure future generations inherit these living stories.
